Vale Doug Crawford

June 12, 2025

Statements

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Doug Crawford, an exemplary former Chair and 2022 recipient of the W.R Hebbelwhite Medal.

Tributes have flowed across the housing and construction circles for Doug, a highly knowledgeable and excellent leader, who was respected by generations of committee members who considered him a Standards legend.

Doug’s industry involvement spanned from the 1980s, and he was instrumental in the development and maintenance of the scaffolding standards portfolio. He worked as a trusted Chair of several committees, including BD-043 Formwork, BD-092 Temporary Edge protection — Construction, and SF-013 Platforms, Gangways, Stairways and Ladders.

Known for his exceptional leadership of BD-036 for 35 years, which he chaired for 35 years, Doug was a driving force behind the evolution of scaffolding standards. He retired from the committee having left a lasting legacy. His work was recognised with the Standards Awards in 1999 for housing construction standards. He will always remain a beloved member of the ÃÀ¼§ÉçÇø community.
