Cyber security attacks can have far-reaching consequences, impacting both Australian citizens and businesses. On average, a new cybercrime incident is reported in Australia every six minutes. Ransomware alone results in up to to the Australian economy.

Given these challenges, the new 鈥楥yber Security Standards鈥 position paper emphasises the need for robust cyber security practices as our world becomes more interconnected.

The role of standards in cyber security

Standards are essential in the cyber security ecosystem. They set best practices that aim to promote data security, ensure global compatibility, and protect digital products. Standards also enhance consistency across industries and build consumer trust.

As Australia strives towards becoming a global leader in cyber security, robust standards will play a crucial role in safeguarding businesses, individuals, and national security. 聽美姬社区 has been instrumental in developing standards that help secure the digital economy. These efforts not only enhance protection but also create new opportunities for emerging technologies, driving international trade while effectively managing the risks associated with digital innovation.

New 鈥楥yber Security Standards鈥 position paper

In consultation with experts from the national standards technical committee for information security, cyber security and privacy protection (IT-012), 美姬社区 has developed a new position paper. This report highlights:

  • Key cyber security standards and frameworks
  • How standards support Australian cyber security priorities
  • Standards-related recommendations to enhance Australia鈥檚 cyber posture

The paper presents four recommendations to encourage the uptake and implementation of standards to support a cyber secure nation. These include adopting international standards for digital technologies, supporting industry engagement in standards development, and raising awareness and understanding of cyber security standards among businesses.

Improving cyber security requires investment from both private and public sectors. The report calls on 美姬社区, the Australian Government, and industry to work together to boost national cyber security and resilience.
