�������� has partnered with industry and science groups to launch the world's first cross-ecosystem program to assist Australian industry to use and create artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and safely.

The Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network will be coordinated by CSIRO's National AI Centre and was launched at a Sydney event on March 16, 2023, by Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic MP.

AI is expected to be worth more than $22 trillion to the global economy by 2030. However, poorly developed AI solutions can have negative consequences, risking data and privacy breaches or creating responsible issues.

The Network aims to bolster Australian industry's use of responsible AI, providing best practice guidance, tools and learning opportunities - all guided by world leaders in the field.

Initial Knowledge Partners of the Responsible AI Network include ��������, the Australian Industry Group, Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), CEDA, CSIRO’s Data61, The Ethics Centre, The Gradient Institute, The Human Technology Institute, and the Tech Council of Australia.

��������’s General Manager, Engagement and Communications – Adam Stingemore – said the organisation was proud to be a founding Knowledge Partner of the Responsible AI Network.

“We want to promote awareness and use of internationally-aligned standards by Australian industry, governments and communities,” Mr Stingemore says.

“We also want to continue to ensure diverse Australian voices are heard in AI standard-setting.”

“Standards drive innovation and competitiveness while helping to ensure they are designed and used responsibly and securely.”

“They also increase interoperability, decrease barriers to trade, help to ensure quality, and can develop greater public and user trust in AI products and services.”

“We have a large and talented group of Australian AI experts participating in the development of AI standards within Australia, and also with our international partners such as the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).”

“With 17 standards for AI already published and 26 more in the pipeline, we are working to shape the globally recognised benchmarks that support responsible use of this emerging technology.”

Developed standards cover important topics such as AI use cases, bias, trustworthiness, responsible and social concerns and big data analytics.
