Harnessing AI鈥檚 potential: 美姬社区鈥檚 role at the 2023 GPAI Summit

December 20, 2023

Statements

A soon-to-be-released 美姬社区 publication supporting the responsible expansion of AI has been showcased at an international event.

Aurelie Jacquet, Chair of Australia鈥檚 AI standards committee, and Roland Terry-Lloyd, Head of Engagement & Strategic Delivery, represented 美姬社区 at the recent 2023 (GPAI) Summit in Delhi.

The summit brought together experts from various fields including science, industry, government, and academia to foster international cooperation on AI-related priorities.

Focusing on AI, Aurelie and Roland participated in a research symposium, showcasing recent developments and key publications. Themes included responsible AI, data governance, the future of work, and innovation and commercialisation.

美姬社区鈥檚 upcoming joint publication with Aurelie, 鈥Supporting AI at Scale in the APEC Region Through International Standards鈥, was a key feature of the session. The paper discusses how international standards can support the scaling and harnessing of AI鈥檚 transformative potential responsibly.

Aurelie鈥檚 presentation highlighted the key international standards for AI developed by the ISO AI subcommittee. She also discussed how the adoption and implementation of AI standards can support harmonised approaches to regulation and policy setting for AI - helping businesses manage risks and scale solutions.

AI has the potential to significantly advance economic and societal wellbeing and enable improved environmental outcomes within the APEC region. A PWC forecast predicts that AI could contribute up to $22.17 trillion to the global economy by 2030, with APEC economies well-positioned to share in these benefits1.

Supporting AI at Scale in the APEC Region Through International Standards aims to highlight these opportunities, challenges, and potential solutions to support the scaling of AI in the APEC economies. The paper is set to be published in early 2024.
